What is a poison?

A poison is something that can make you sick or can hurt you if you eat, drink, touch or smell it. Poisons come in all colours, shapes and sizes. A poison can smell and taste good, but can may you very sick.

Medicine can make you sick if you take the wrong kind or if you take too much. Never take any medicine unless an adult you trust tells you that it is safe. Only a parent or someone who is looking after you should give you medicine if you need it!

Never put anything in your mouth if you are not sure that it is safe to eat. Always ask a grown-up first!

If you think someone has eaten, drank, touched or smelled a poison, tell a grown-up. The grown-up can call the Poison Centre.

If you think someone you love has been poisoned, you should call 911.
