POISON ALERT: Durham Region residents warned about tainted street drug supply

The Durham Region Health Department has issued a warning about an unknown substance resembling Xanax (R), being sold on the street. Xanax (R), also known as Alprazolam, is a prescription drug that is commonly used to treat anxiety. The release indicates that eight youth in the region experienced unexpected symptoms following exposure to this substance.
The Ontario Poison Centre reminds Ontarians that drugs not purchased at a pharmacy may contain other substances and may put the individual at an increased risk of overdose. If you or someone you know experience effects that you are concerned about call the centre at 1-800-268-9017.
